Concrete wall volume
Concrete Wall / Stem Wall Calculator
Estimate concrete for a straight wall or stem-wall section from the net wall length, concrete height, and thickness you supply.
Wall concrete quantity
Enter the wall dimensions
Use net concrete dimensions. Exclude footings, pilasters, columns, slabs, openings, and overlapping returns unless handled separately.
Enter dimensions and choose a waste allowance, then calculate.

How the wall calculation works
The calculator multiplies net wall length × concrete height × wall thickness for a rectangular volume, then applies the selected 0%, 5%, 10%, or 15% arithmetic waste allowance. Adjusted volume is shown in cubic yards, cubic feet, and cubic meters.
Verified example
30 ft × 8 ft × 8 in wall with 10% waste
6.52 yd³176.00 ft³
Independently derived case A starts at 160 cubic feet and applies 10%, producing 176 cubic feet, or about 6.52 cubic yards.
Measurement tips
- Measure only the concrete wall height; do not add a footing, cap, or slab thickness unless it belongs in this wall section.
- Use net length and subtract openings or calculate them separately when their volume is material.
- At corners and returns, assign the overlapping volume to one wall segment only.
- Separate sections with different heights or thicknesses, and use dimensions selected by plans or a qualified professional.
Concrete Wall / Stem Wall Formula Reference
Reviewed relationship
For dimensions supplied by the user, the calculator treats the wall section as a rectangular prism:
raw volume = net wall length × concrete wall height × wall thickness
adjusted volume = raw volume × (1 + selected waste percentage)
The waste selection is optional in effect because 0% is available and is the default. It is arithmetic only, not a recommendation for forming, pumping, ordering, or placement loss.
Geometry, openings, and overlap convention
Net wall length excludes any corner or return volume assigned to another wall segment. Footings, pilasters, columns, slabs, caps, and openings are excluded unless the entered dimensions intentionally include them. Calculate sections separately when height or thickness changes, and subtract material openings separately when their volume is significant.
Unit reference
The calculator uses the international definitions 1 foot = 0.3048 meter and 1 inch = 0.0254 meter. The NIST Guide to the SI, Appendix B documents the length and volume conversion factors. Source reviewed 2026-10-05.
Scope and limitations
- The user supplies net wall length, concrete height, wall thickness, and a waste percentage.
- The calculator does not determine wall size, footing size, reinforcement, lateral or vertical loads, retaining-wall behavior, drainage, waterproofing, or code compliance.
- It does not infer or automatically deduct openings, pilasters, columns, corners, or returns.
- Use dimensions from applicable plans or a qualified professional and verify actual forming and ordering quantities.
