Bagged concrete quantity
Concrete Bags Calculator
Find how many whole bags of concrete a rectangular project requires. Enter the dimensions, then choose the nominal bag size.
Whole-bag estimate
Enter dimensions and bag size
Results use reviewed QUIKRETE Concrete Mix No. 1101 nominal yields and round the purchase count upward. No waste is added.
Enter dimensions and choose a bag size, then calculate.

How the bag calculation works
Length × width × thickness gives project volume. The calculator converts that volume to cubic feet, divides by the reviewed nominal yield for the selected product size, and rounds upward to the next whole bag.
Verified example
10 ft × 10 ft × 4 in with 60 lb bags
75 bags74.07 bags
This fixed example comes from independently derived known-answer case B. The raw requirement is retained before the purchase count is rounded upward.
Measurement tips
- Measure the finished project length and width at right angles.
- Enter the planned uniform thickness in inches.
- Confirm the yield printed on the product you plan to buy; formulations may differ.
- Treat this as a no-waste quantity, not a purchase recommendation for a specific project.
Concrete Bags Formula Reference
Reviewed relationship
For a rectangular project, the calculator computes raw geometric volume from length × width × thickness. It converts that volume to cubic feet, divides by the selected bag’s nominal yield in cubic feet, and applies a ceiling operation:
required bags = ceil(project volume in ft³ ÷ nominal yield in ft³ per bag)
The fractional requirement remains in the structured result. The whole-bag count never rounds downward. No waste allowance, pricing, pallet quantity, delivery method, labor, or product recommendation is included.
Yield reference data: concrete-bag-yields@1.0.0
Version 1.0.0 selects QUIKRETE Concrete Mix No. 1101 as one explicit product assumption:
| Nominal bag weight | Nominal yield |
|---|---|
| 40 lb | 0.30 ft³ |
| 50 lb | 0.375 ft³ |
| 60 lb | 0.45 ft³ |
| 80 lb | 0.60 ft³ |
The values come from the QUIKRETE Concrete Mix No. 1101 technical data sheet. The QUIKRETE product page lists all four supported package sizes, and the QUIKRETE quantity calculator documents upward whole-bag rounding. Sources were reviewed on 2026-08-26.
Yield is product-specific, not derivable from bag weight alone. As a cross-check, Sakrete lists 0.30, 0.45, and 0.60 ft³ for its 40, 60, and 80 lb High Strength Concrete Mix, while its 50 lb 5000 Plus product displays 0.38 ft³ rather than QUIKRETE’s 0.375 ft³. The reviewed dataset therefore preserves the selected product and version instead of presenting a universal weight-to-yield conversion.
Assumptions and limitations
- The project is a rectangular prism with uniform thickness.
- Dimensions describe the finished geometric volume.
- Yield uses the reviewed manufacturer value for the selected product dataset version.
- Mixing, placement, consolidation, subgrade, spillage, and waste may change real purchasing needs.
- The bagged-versus-ready-mix telemetry model is a low-confidence, versioned heuristic and is not shown as consumer advice.
